1. What is Ptosis Correction?
Ptosis Correction strengthens the eye-opening muscles (Müller's muscle / levator palpebrae superioris) so that the upper eyelid lifts properly off the pupil.
Ptosis refers to a state in which the eye-opening muscles are weak and the upper eyelid covers part of the pupil. This makes the eyes look small and sleepy, and the patient often compensates by recruiting the forehead muscle — deepening forehead wrinkles in the process.
Typical Symptoms of Ptosis
Pupil partially covered when the eyes are open
Constantly sleepy or vacant-looking expression
Need to engage the forehead to open the eyes
Forehead wrinkles deepen when opening the eyes
Asymmetric eye opening between left and right
Frequent eye fatigue and headaches
2. Ptosis Self-Assessment
In front of a mirror, relax your forehead and open your eyes naturally.
Check how much of the pupil is covered by the upper eyelid.
Pupil fully visible
The upper lid sits above the pupil so the pupil is completely exposed.
Top of pupil covered
The lid slightly covers the upper edge of the pupil — the eyes can appear a bit sleepy.
Past the center of pupil
More than half the pupil is covered, narrowing the visual field and making the eye look very small.
3. Surgical Methods
Non-Incisional Ptosis Correction
From the inside of the eyelid (conjunctival side), the eye-opening muscle is shortened and reinforced. No external incision means no visible scar and a fast recovery.
Incisional Ptosis Correction
An incision along the double-fold line exposes the levator palpebrae superioris, which is directly shortened and reinforced. Highly effective for moderate-to-severe ptosis and can be combined with upper blepharoplasty.
Combined with Buried-Suture Double Fold
Non-incisional ptosis correction can be performed together with a buried-suture double-fold procedure, delivering a natural double fold and a brighter eye in a single session.
4. Expected Outcomes
Brighter, Well-Defined Eyes
Improved eye-opening strength fully exposes the pupil, making the eyes look larger and more clearly defined.
Wider Visual Field
The previously obstructed visual field opens up, reducing eye fatigue and making daily activities more comfortable.
Livelier Expression
A sleepy, dull look transforms into a brighter, more energetic expression — often a meaningful confidence boost.
Reduced Forehead Wrinkles
Because the forehead no longer needs to compensate to open the eyes, forehead wrinkles naturally soften over time.
5. Recovery Timeline
Day of Surgery
Cold compression begins right after surgery. Periocular swelling is expected, and the eyes may look slightly over-corrected (an expected, transient appearance).
Suture Removal (Incisional Method)
For the incisional method, sutures are removed at this point. The non-incisional method does not require suture removal. Swelling gradually subsides.
Return to Daily Life
Most swelling and bruising are gone and patients return to normal activities. The brighter, more open eye line is already noticeable.
Settled Result
The mild early over-correction settles into a clear yet natural eye line. The final result is reached over 1–3 months.
